Dear Mr. Morawski,
My name is Ania U, I am a hard school worker and I need quiet in order to work. Though frequently that is not the case. I am writing to concern that many students are disrespecting the teachers and talking during quiet class work periods.
On the week of March 15, our assignment was to read for two hours - March is reading month, we were having a read-a-thon. I was focusing and reading my book, the Westing Game, meanwhile some students were playing games on their technological devices, talking in voices above whispers, and being distracting and disrespectful to the substitute teacher. I couldn't read my book! It happens on other days, too. On days when we are learning by listening to the teacher many students were zoning out and using inactive listening skills.
Students are being disrespectful to teachers and not listening. I am left with much homework to do. The substitute teacher leaves with a bad note on them.
What I think is that certain students are just ruining the whole classes reputation. Other students get irritated, too. If I don't tell the teacher to quiet the class then it would be even worse! Many students move to other spaces because of this. The school ruling is excellent; but what is the point of them if the kids don't listen!
What I am asking of you is that you make the ruling stricter and allow the kids some elbow room at periods. Please have the consequences be memorable and model the good kids. Then we would all have a better understanding from administrators, parents, and to kids. For the sake of me and fellow students please take this to consideration.
Sincerely,
Ania U
